All About Pocket Knives

Hello all I recently acquired this providence aw wadsworth made knife the main blade locks,with the smaller blade is just pushed down to release anyone seen this or know what
Its called etc thanks

Many early electrician's knives were made with that style of locking mechanism (pushing down the blade unlocked the screwdriver) but I don't know the name for it.

I don't think there's a name for that locking mechanism. Schrade Cut Co just referred to their version on the screwdriver lock as a lock back screwdriver. Yours is the first knife that I've seen with the lock used on an actual blade.

I have a Weidmannsheil with the same release mechanism. Same thing - I just had to have this knife. The other interesting thing about this knife that caught my eye is the smaller blade is a wharncliffe, not a pen. Attached are some pics. Of course, I had to figure out how the lock release works. Sorry for the poor picture, but in the 2nd pic, you can see the end of the locking/release lever in the blade well where it makes contact with the kick of the secondary blade. Using the secondary blade to push the end of this lever down frees the other end of this lever from the locking cutout in the tang of the primary blade. Very ingenious mechanism, that I like a lot better than linerlocks, framelocks and other types of blade locks.

I have owned a few vintage 2 blade jacks with a locking master blade that is released by pressing down on the spine of the closed secondary blade.
I have a Steel Warrior small copperhead with this locking mechanism. I really like it.

Here is a knife that I worked on that had that style of spring lock.

I had to make a new one of those springs, as the original had snapped. Here's a pic of what they look like...
