All About Pocket Knives

I would like to know the porpoise of this extra hilt, Its not a fighting knife and not enough room for a finger so why ?

Good question Bob. I sent a couple of minutes trying to figure it out, but if even one finger won't fit I am at a loss. Purely as a design element it doesn't seem to make sense.

Yes, I'm thinking design also, the distance between the hilts is 3/8"...and the notch cut in one...must be English thing !

Goofy fad. Master smiths are making them, also. Multi-thousand dollar knives. The cutlery game is full of nonsensical knives. Some of them are immensely popular. I can think of one that is a poor choice as a functional knife that is seen on Ebay everyday in the dozens and has been made in the millions. People here love them. I would not dare put a name to it because I don't want any drive-by shootings.

Well, I've wanted a sub-hilt fixed blade knife for a loooong time. Didn't jump when they were affordable (compared to today's prices) so now they're out of reach for my pocketbook. I have no idea what it is about 'em but I like 'em. Even that one.

My understanding is that it is supposed to be specific to a "Hunting Knife" whereby the user can thrust the blade all the way to the guard, then use the "Sub-Hilt" to aid in removal of the blade or something to that effect.

I don't think there are any specific directions as to how wide the sub-hilt must be. It all depends on how the maker wants to build that specific model. Of course I could be totally wrong but that's my understanding.

Is it possible that the notch on the inside of the second hilt is designed to be a cap lifter for a bottle of beer?

Could it be a shell puller notch?

Barry I do believe it would work for that, I'll try it out latter today! It could work as a shell puller, just seems a bit awkward to use with a sharp blade sticking out there.

Well it will open a bottle...not the best but it works!

I believe now the sub-hilt is more for looks than anything...but it has the look some folks like... I would hate to have it stuck that deep in something but it would help getting it out.
