I've been looking for a Rhinoceros for quite some time and recently I found one that I could afford.

The blade etch says African Hunter, so maybe cutting up elephants and rhinos.

I've got one marked "Bowie" in Stag, #469. I picked it up cheap but see some high eBay prices on these.

The guard on yours is more typical of the knives I've seen in my search.

They really are cool knives! 
I recently found a great unused condition specimen.
I've always wanted one, so I finally just bit the bullet
My guess about this style of knife is that there was one source for these forged steel blades in Solingen Germany. I'd also guess that the one source was Wingen/Othello, and that they they supplied the blades and/or complete knives for any other cutleries in Solingen that wanted to buy them. I guess it was pretty common practice to do this. They are a ton of different makers tang stamps on these types of knives, but their blades are the same shape and overall dimensions... One source is almost surely the case

Am I the only one confused about what we are looking at here? Forgive my ignorance, as I am unfamiliar with this style knife, but to my eyes it looks like two blades somehow merged together into one....like there is a smaller shorter blade welded onto the top of a larger Bowie style blade...what is going on here?
