All About Pocket Knives

I just bought a few Morakniv Fixed Blades similar to this one. Does anyone here have any long term experience or opinions about these knives? Good? Bad? Yes? No? Any and all replies are welcome.

I have several. They are my go-to work knives. They are well-made, affordable, and take a beating. The Scandi grind can, for many, be more difficult to sharpen. And, at $8 each for a 511 Basic--lose one or break it, just put a new one on order or go down to the local knife store and buy another. It's not like I'm out $50-100 or more.

Just an FYI- the Carbon blades have a fire steel striker built into the spline.

I have one and I like it quite a bit. I keep it in my garage for breaking down boxes on the rare occasions that I bother to break them down. Mine has only seen moderate use and I haven't had it much longer than a year, or so it seems. I can't really speak in terms of longevity.

There's a very good chance that you are going to like yours, Mike. Mine is the only one I have but it's a hard knife not to like. I'll think you'll be quite pleased.

I bought the Eldris a couple years back as I was just getting into fixed blades that fit well in my pocket. I tried several others, which I liked as they were thinner and easier to carry being slim skeleton handle models, but went back to the Eldris as it was the only one that was really comfortable for extended use and cold hands.

Plus, the snap-on adapter (which is also the same one already on the OP's Kansbol) is a lot cheaper than a Tek-Lok for when you want to carry it on your belt. Also doesn't get in the way when you're just carrying the knife in a pants or coat pocket as I mostly do.

I have a 120, 122, 162 and 164 for wood carving and a Companion for general outdoor/yard use. These are incredible knives for the money; easy to sharpen, hold an edge very well and fit my hand better than most others I own or have owned. The only area that could be improved in my opinion is the plastic sheath, if it's a bother replace it.

Mora Knives are proof that there are people in the world who can make a product that cost less and something made in China and of far superior quality.
I have several and they often give them as gifts to someone who needs a knife but you don't know their level of commitment and interest in hunting or fishing. Another words if you think it's a young person who's going to quickly lose interest in hunting or fishing, the Mora knives are an inexpensiveWay of giving them a quality knife without breaking the bank.

If I were working again as an industrial mechanic I would have a couple in my toolbox to abuse. Since I only work at home anymore I have all kinds of old specially cutting tools in my shop. The one Mora I keep at my workbench is one that is a straight flat bar of steel With a chisel grind along one edge and the end cut at a 90° angle with a chisel grind on it as well. A great knife if you need to scrape a gasket!

Here's a rig I use at the farm sometimes when I'm giving Rocky the day off. The Normark belt hangar sheath was part of a sheath lot I won at auction once upon a time and I didn't have a knife for it. I did have to cut a slit in it slightly so the knife would fit, also had to trim the finger guard on the knife a little.

The Marble's Workman and fire steel go inside my pocket but are easily accessible. Very light weight so it's good for hiking too, and you can see the roughed spline for using as a striker.

I own a few, have lost one and found one in the woods. Solid and inexpensive, they’re so nice you might still be upset if you lose one — my personal experience. The Companions are tough to beat with a comfortable handle and usable sheath, just decide between carbon and stainless. Performance between the two is minimal for my purposes so I prefer stainless.

Strange you should mention the 511... I was just gifted one from Blade HQ when I ordered my Pirahna "Fingerling" auto. It came in a separate UPS "mailer" today. I really like it (even if it has an "international orange" handle). I put a "shaving sharp" edge on the blade and am pleased with the results. I plan on giving the knife to my landlord as a "working" gift for the long hours he spends working on the "ol' plantation".

I hope that he enjoys the knife and that it serves him well.

The main problem is the homeliness of the scandi grind.
It is my intention to petiontion my congressman to introduce legislation outlawing the offensive grind.

I enjoyed the humor

Used these types of knives since the 80's usually the classic no1 type , I tend to look out for older ones by frost etc as they had laminated blades , newer ones dont always have a true Scandinavian grind as can have a slight micro bevel, there great knives for outdoorsmans

When I read your post, it offended me so much I was halfway out the door to go looting and rioting before I realized I didn’t have a Mora in a color to match my baggy pants and black hoodie. Dang!

Oh well, more energy than I wanted to expend today anyway.

Yah, Moras are good quality cheap knives. I have one in each rig, one in the kitchen, one on my desk, one in each hiking pack. Probably a couple more around here I’ve forgotten about. I kinda favor the carbon steel flavor.

I've been intrigued by these for a couple years so I'll give this one a try.

Me and the boys have several floating around here. I prefer the laminated carbon ones, but their stainless ain’t bad. My oldest boy really likes them.

As others have said the Scandi grind is a little more difficult to sharpen but they are an excellent working knife for the price point. The Eldris is a little work horse, I also have a couple companions with carbon steel blade and are excellent.

The other day I had to reduce dozens of cardboard boxes both big and small. This is what I used. It zipped thru everything making the task very easy. Still very sharp.
