All About Pocket Knives

I have another query, that's 2 in a day, Hope there's no cap on queries I have a beaten down knife with a metal handle marked On tang 'Garantie Solingen D.R.P'

Any idea how I would go about dating and id-ing such a tang mark?

There's some German knifes and daggers marked with the same stamp and it looks like it's the German version of Patent. The problem is I do not see a patent number?

I can tell you the D.R.P. is the German abbreviation for Deutsches Reichspatent. It’s simply the equivalent of something marked “patented” - no patent number necessary. It can be seen on many older German made products including some pocket knives like yours. “Garantie” is the German word for guarantee. Solingen is of course the area (city) that was the center of German knife-making.

Based on that I doubt it’s a manufacturer brand name. Someone that knows more about German cutlery may know more.
