Got the magician knife, the pen blade has a W after the number. Knife does not have a Wharncliffe blade. Is the pen blade a mistake? Box does not have W either. Any ideas!

I think your best bet would be to post some pictures if possible.

Has anyone bought the Christmas magician knife since I posted about the penblade having a W after the number. Thanks for info.

I think you're gonna have to post pictures of the knife, box label if you have it, and the tang stamp in question.
BTW I don't find anything about it on the Case Collector's Club Forum either. Is it a Shepherd Hills or SMKW exclusive?

Thanks - a picture is worth a thousand words! Now that I see what you're talking about, if you go to
www.caseknives.com and put 6249W into "search" there, all the knives that come up have wharncliff blades. My guess therefore is they has some leftover pen blades stamped with the 6249W and they used them up making those Christmas magicians SFO knives. The W is for wharncliff.

Thanks, I knew the W stood for wharncliff and I thought they had probably used blades already made. Sorry for so many of same picture just learning !!

The W is actually a test. The true owner can make the master turn into a Wharncliffe when one is desired.
Using up left over parts is nothing new. I'll speculate that the distributors have ordered more variations of 6249Ws than the market can absorb.
Early in the year I bought a Caribbean Blue 6249W. It was the first 6249W SMKW offered with bone. I was afraid there would be no other variations with bone and if I didn't act I'd miss out. Caribbean Blue is way too bright for me. Bright baby blue would have been a more descriptive name. What I fool I was. I'm beginning to think the best answer is to make it a user.
