Help with a very old knife

Hiya folks,
I acquired this recently. I believe it to be a French trade knife into New France ,or not.it is flat ground and stamped with a word I just don't recognize. It has a fancy cut bolster and a very nice decoration on reverse side of blade. The handle is of a single piece with a dogs head carved at the tip to receive the tip of blade.
I haven't done anything other than scrape the glue off of it where it was glued to a board!
So please educate this old man on what I think is a really nice knife.
Regards, John
