what is this little guy?

Hi,
I picked up this knife at a flea market from a collector this weekend and can't figure out exactly who made it, so I thought someone on here may have some idea. The fit and finish are beautiful and it's really a pleasure in the hand but that makes me curious about its history. I guess the brand is Jowkia based on the stamp on the blade and it's German, but anyone happen to have any info on this or the brand in general?

That knife was made by Stahlwarenfabrik Eugen Weber & Altenbach KG, a German maker of low end pocketknives. They owned the Jowika name and also had a factory in Listowel Ireland that was eventually purchased by Schrade around 1978. They coined the Jowika name around 1940.

Wow so much info, thanks! Any idea of what used to be on the shield or it's meaning? It looks like a shield I see on some Winchester knives but I'm pretty new to all this. Appreciate the history on this now, thanks again.

I'm fairly certain is was just a plain shield. From what I can see it doesn't look like it had any engraving on it, although the pic angles don't make it very clear. Most all knife shields were strictly decorative.
