All About Pocket Knives

My mother's husband recently passed and in his estate we found a collection of about 150 or more mostly Case, Ka Bar, and old advertising knives. I've been able to price about half of them myself but there are a lot left. Mostly older Case's and older Ka Bar's with no numbers on them. Not being a knife guy I can't exactly identify them myself by model. I was wondering if A; this is the right forum for that B; should I post them all in one thread or one knife per thread? Thanks in advance.

This would be the correct place, but pictures of the knives on question would be your best bet. And to AAPK.

Here’s a place to start. I’m assuming you know nothing about knives so forgive me if this is too elementary.

Stamped on the blades of the knife will be the maker, and often the pattern number. Up there in the header at the top of this page you’ll see the link to the “Research” section here on AAPK. For your Case knives you’ll find information there explaining how to read the stamps on each knife to determine the age, pattern name, etc. From that you can use the advanced search capability on eBay to find values of recently sold or similar knives. In the advanced search section select “sold listings only” to find actual sales results (you don’t generally care what sellers are asking - just what buyers have paid). Those having no pattern numbers could be posted in the Case Collectors forum. viewforum.php?f=66

The Kabars will be a little more difficult since there isn’t a dedicated research section. Depending on age some may not have pattern numbers. Those that do can be researched on eBay using the same process described above. The others you can post pictures here (there is a Kabar Collectors forum here). viewforum.php?f=78 One picture or two individual pictures per post would probably be best, rather than groups of knives.

Almost everything I have left is lacking a model number. Thanks for the advice. Here are a few of the old Case's.

The knife pictured in the first photo is a 6265DR (DR is the designation for drilled, the hole in the bolster) with a flat ground clip master blade ( there’s also a saber ground version). The second one could be a 62028 but will need to know the closed length to be sure as there are other similar pattern that have differing lengths. The 62028 is 3-1/2 inches closed length. The fixed blade in the bottom photo will have to be identified by one of the resident Case fixed blade collectors here (that’s not me).

All very nice looking knives!

I’m afraid the Case knife in the first picture is not a genuine Case product.

It is indeed 3 1/2 inches. Thank you very much. I'm not able to track down a price on either but the info is welcome, at least I can label them now.

I wondered if there might be some counterfeit's in here. Would explain why I can't find that particular knife with that particular bomb shield ( I have learned some things) anywhere online.

Here are the next 3 that are stumping me. I think these are high enough resolution to see the tangs but if not I can add some of those as well.

Unfortunately the top knife is also a counterfeit. The other two look good. 23046 Tested and a 6383 SAB Tested.

Yeah, the jigging on those two knives is a dead giveaway. Also, Steve may once have told me folding Hunters were not drilled, but that may just have been the XX era except for the Bill Boatman's.

You will learn a lot here.

The top knife in the last set of pictures looks like a Tested greenbone 06267. Second knife looks like a dotted 6380 pattern but I think it has been rehandled in stag. Last knife is a 82079 1/2 mother of pearl. With a few exceptions it looks like you have some pretty nice knives.

Would that have been rehandled by Case or someone else? Can you tell?
