All About Pocket Knives

Years ago my Dad and I were digging a hole in our back yard when I saw something in the pile we had already excavated, I reached down and saw what looked like an old slipjoint, I put it in my pocket and do not remember what I did with it.
Last week I was looking for a screwdriver in the kitchen tool drawer and saw that old pocket knife, I am real sorry I did not take a picture of it at that time but it was in bad shape, full of rusty dirt and i could not budge the blades, I filled a small mason jar full of mineral oil and dropped it in.
The knife was in the oil for about a week, every day I would check it to see if there was any progress, slowly the dirt was coming out of it like the sands of time from an hourglass.
I pulled it out today and here is an old Camillus 64, looks like Delrin and the shield is missing but the blades came loose and it still has that walk and talk.
Any suggestions for removing the remaining rust from the blade?

I think I'd use four ought steel wool and wd40 until it didn't matter any more.
It will sharpen as it is now and be a good packer as long as the joints are clean.

What a great story!

I use steel wool and sometimes, I will use a strip of fine sandpaper on a stick to hold it straight. Then I will use a spring clamp to hold the knife in place. I then add some oil to the blade and start sanding with the "sanding stick" similar to the way you would use a file.

The patina and the story are so cool. I would have to leave some of that patina on it!

That is a great story! You should go back to that hole and start digging again... you might find the shield this time

I thought of that but its now under a concrete slab.
I cleaned it up with 0000 steel wool and Ballistol.

Great background story . The steel on those take a great edge and really like the size as well ,great pocket knife.

Here is my old 64. which was allso not in good shape when i got it.
the blades are well worn, and the bone covers are cracked, but it still walks and talks no blade wobble.
i use it nearly every day.
