Not sure exactly when ,but did look thru some references and my short and long lines and believe sometime in late 60 s on the 72 framed ones . Will do some more checking if no one else chimes in . Do believe different models in the old 4 line period were glued on ,along with bent over tab ones ?
Didn’t really answer your question now though Is there a particular model you’re thinking about ?

I have a 69 that is a long line tang stamp and has bone covers. It doesn’t have a visible pin in the shield, checked inside. Seems strange to me. I guess save a little where they could. Harold
