All About Pocket Knives

I bought this neat little Remington knife recently. Tell me all about it. I see from the Remington info on AAPK that the tang stamp dates to 1924-1933. Wow that’s neat. What else?

Can you post a close-up of the tang marking and include the bolster and a bit of the handle. From the one picture now posted i cannot tell if handle is bone or a synthetic like Delrin.

First of all, welcome!

These were made by Camillus, and actually date to the 1990s. If I recall correctly, free with boxes of .22 ammunition. Pretty much every reproduction Remington, from Bowen (1970s-1980s), to Camillus, (1980s-2003) to Bear and Son Cutlery (2003-2018), to Buck (2018 and 2019) and to Great Eastern Cutlery (2021-) has used that same 1924-1933 tang stamp.

Pretty practical little pattern. Better than the bigger, clunky lightweight "Remington Racing" lockback included later.

I actually think that's a Bear and Son rendition, note the lack of handle pins. Also is that a steel bolster pin? The handles and blade might not even be original pairs.

The thing that made me most suspicious that this was not really from the 1920s era was that no pattern number was stamped on the blade (like the AAPK page said it should have). Is that a good thing for a Remington novice to look for, or is that not always a reliable indicator?

Biggest indicator on this knife is the Delrin handles.

Yes, it is a good thing to look for although not all old Remingtons have pattern numbers. In addition to seeing a pattern number learning what the number means as far as handle material is code is a good thing also.
