All About Pocket Knives

I’m new to collecting and have found a Queen pattern that is either Winterbottom or delrin. The knife is as follows, 4” closed Queen Hawbaker Improved Muskrat. On the secondary blade it is etched, Hawbaker’s Special. On the main blade is etched, Improved Muskrat Knife. The knife looks totally unused. Pure jet black scales with white near the bolsters. Does anyone know if this pattern was made in Delrin Winterbottom? Obviously I really like the black and white original bone. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Which one of these two handles is the most similar to the knife in question? I know they are not the same frame but the handle material is easy to see the difference when compared side by side. The one on the top is Imitation Winterbottom Bone, delrin.
The bottom knife is real Winterbottom Bone.
Neither knife has been sharpened.

I think he's asking if Queen ever made a hawbaker in winterbottom. He's looking at a black handled version right now. I've seen them in just about every handle BUT winterbottom although there was a Schatt & Morgan version done in 2008.

Try this and see if you can see the knife.

Definitely Delrin. Although I wouldn't call that "jet black"...it looks like standard, run-of-the-mill brown Delrin to me (and, yes, I do believe it's original).


Curious that the description states "Stag Scales"

It looks to consistent to be bone to me, but I read a post on another forum that said Queen released this improved Muskrat in 4 handle choices, one being winterbottom bone and Delrin was not a choice.

I don't know about the Muskrat pattern, but I do know both Winterbottom Bone and Delrin were used on the Mini Trapper #51 pattern.

Oops, my bad on my post above. I honestly thought he was talking about handles on the knife in question that were actually some kind of black material but was curious as to whether they made the knife in winterbottom.

Completely misunderstood that one, time for more coffee I guess.

The knife in question is definitely delrin.

I bought some Canal Street knives from these guys once upon a time, everything went smoothly. Just an FYI.

I have both bought and sold knives on consignment through The Cutting Edge and never had any problems. When someone sells a knife through their site, they take all the photos and write up the listing info (not the owner of the knife), so when you call, you can only speak to the employees (not the knife's owner). Here's a little tip for if/when you do call AG Russell (The Cutting Edge): You can make an offer that they will communicate to the owner of the knife. Personally, I feel that $150 is too high for that particular knife (although it is a very nice knife, no doubt). I think $75-$80 is more reasonable, especially for Delrin handles. Good luck...I hope you get it...and for a fair price.

As I noted earlier...they have it listed as having "Stag Scales" which clearly isn't true (evidently someone made a mistake when writing up the listing info).
