All About Pocket Knives

Can anyone date this Schrade trapper for me. It has a very faint CRAFTSMAN etch on the clip blade. The scales are bone.

Eric (ea42) will know more about it...

But my guess is that it is from the last years that Schrade used genuine bone - so that would be late 50's to early 60's.

Check to see if the shield is pinned or glued - my guess based on others like that I have seen is that the shield is glued in.

The bone does not have the classic "peachseed" jigging so a guess would be that Schrade outsourced their jigged bone prior to switching to Delrin.

I think Steve is dead on,57,58- 1960.

Thanks for the information. Would anyone care to venture a guess as to it's value? The blades are un-sharpened, but are covered with the fine staining and pitting. Seems to be a characteristic of the Schrade blades because they did not have the high polish other makers applied.

Need to see a picture with blades open, both sides.
And how are snaps ? any blade play when fully open ?
A bone handled Schrade Walden 293 is quite collectible. Most have jigged Delrin handles.

Sorry....I should have included pictures of the blades in the original post. The blades have excellent snap (as new), and there is no wobble.

The value is affected by the surface condition of the blades. If the blades were closer to having original finish with etch clearly visible, the value would be much higher. There likely was a Sears pattern number in the etch.
I am not an expert in market value of Schrade or Sears knives but i have collected both for many years. I suggest a value of about $100, but am interested to see if others here agree or value it differently.

Somewhere down these hallowed halls is a chart showing the Craftsman logos and shields with approximate dates of usage. The etch on the OP knife I think is the "crown" type. As has been suggested, the knife is NOT an early 1950s knife.
