Identification help... Please

Hello everyone,

I am a collector of many things...but not knives. Recently, I found the knife below and I am hoping for some help identifying it. I am under no illusion that it is rare or valuable, just hoping to gain some information on it.

The Soligen blade, patina, leather work sheath, wear, and red, black, and gold (German flag?) design appealed to me. I paid a very reasonable price.

Let me know what you think and I thank you very much!

Best,

Rome Knife.

Nice old knife, but could have been made by any of numerous makers. Solingen is a city in Germany with a long history of cutlery production and a cutlery guild, with many different makers located there. Without a makers name stamped on it, unless someone recognizes some unique characteristic it will be difficult to say who made it.

Thank you for the reply!

There is not a Maker's Mark on the blade... Any way of identifying the age or time period?

I put the sheath under uv light (I do this with all painted items) and it does not floursence. On paintings, this means no chemical additives and generally dates items to pre world war two (although this is very general).

Thanks again for replying.

Pre-WWII, probably late 1920s to 1930s is a good guess.

Could be a Wingen/Ideal Shirt Co. knife. ::shrug::
