Camillus Marine knife model 5685B

This question is not about pocket knives but about Camillus reproduction Marine knives model number 5685B. Some in my collection are marked U.S.M.C. with a period after each letter and others are marked USMC with no periods. Does anyone know the dates of production for the changes, which is earlier or later, the reason for the change, etc. Thank you for your time.
