Remington R1613! Any info

So I just got my hands on this Remington R1613 but I have heard some think none were ever made but the bone definitely looks like Remington bone to me

Houston Price had a mint value of $700 in his 1991 OFFICIAL GUIDE TO COLLECTOR KNIVES. Don't have any idea what that means today. It appears used and a bit short but it's still a great knife.

Yea I was just wondering if it was Authentic or not unfortunately it’s been used hard outside looks great but the opening an closing snap is completely gone an the blade is definitely short. It’s a shame. I do know a really good knife repair guy probably the best around that could fix the snap an maybe extend the tip but idk if it’s worth it or not.?

Honest old knife.It's the bullet shield ones that are questionable,not this one.

Not sure who thinks these knives were never made but your knife is completely correct and they were definitely made.

I got it for this book but that’s why I love this forum because their are so many smart people on here that know their knifes

An honest opinion would you get the snap fixed? Or blade extended? Because in this condition you would probably be lucky to get 20percent of mint price. Not that I’m looking to sell but I do collect as an investment.

By me ????? Whatever a well informed buyer and seller agree on. Seems prices and "values" don't correlate very much these days.

This is what I do to get snap back in an old knife.
Put it in my ultrasonic cleaner for a couple cycles.
Scrub out with dish soap and small brush.
Blow completely dry with compressed air.
Oil the joints with Quick Release oil.
This works almost every time, UNLESS the tang is worn.

How exactly would you get the blade extended? Weld some steel on? Then how do you go about re-hardening and tempering the blade? Once you do that it's a useless scrap of steel, no longer an original Remington blade. You're looking to increase the value of a knife by artificially doctoring it which to me is totally wrong and borders on counterfeiting.

Rebuilding the tang to bring back the snap is okay to me, but it may be more expensive than it is worth.
As far as "extending the blade", any welding above the tang is akin to counterfeiting, and destroys any value.
