I got this on my Buffalo trip today thanks to a great tip from my knife pals about the shopping mall in Salamanca, New York. (Thanks PA Knives) It screamed "BUY ME!" from the display case. I have always admired Appaloosa bone handles and when you combine it with another love of mine the Barlow pattern... Then the darn lady that opened the case said it was 30 percent off  I was doomed!
Anyway, I did notice something about the blade stamp, it is partially ground off.
What I want to know is the a factory second?
I know from the GREAT research area here it is a 1980 issue, Ten Dots, Lightening "S" in the "USA", but the CASE XX is ground off.
Also the is a groove at the edge of the bolster, you can see it in the pictures.
I bought it thinking it was a second and paid accordingly, but I LOVED the scales.

in my experience, most of the time when the tang is crossed out or marked out on a case knife, it is or was a factory second. its a nice knife anyway and i too love the apaloosa bone handles.

Thats what I figured, perhaps it was a second do to the notch in the bolster, everything else seems fine. I wasn't sure Case ever let seconds out on the street. I wonder if it adds to the value due to rarity.

ive never sold one but from what ive seen on ebay, it usually doesnt add to the value, but youve still got a nice solid knife there and probably saved some money too, so its a win win.

When you send a knife back to Case to replace a broken blade the new blade is noched ! Showing it has been replaced by CASE! ::nod::
