Here is a nice little sleeveboard covered in the long tooth. 2 15/16" closed.
The seller says this knife has hand forged blades and was made around 1920 in Sheffield, England.
It is a sweetie and a survivor.

Nice Sheffield example FRJ, with wonderfully aged Ivory handles. Enclosed is a catalog illustration from a John Petty & Sons catalog circa 1930. While the illustration is not quite up to par with most cutlery catalogs, it does state that this knife was offered in Ivory, Buff. (Horn), and Stag.

I appreciate the illustration.
I am curious, however, about the knife length.
Your illustration gives a length of 2 3/4" while my knife is 2 15/16". That 3/16" seems purposeful.
That is, it wouldn't be a grinding error at that distance. I wonder if my knife was a different offering.
It would seem odd if it were at that short increment. I find this kind of puzzling.
Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

There are several pages in that catalog showing just pen blade knives alone, and most show fairly precise measurements down to 1/8 inch.
This whole page shown carries many of the smaller knives and sleeve board patterns like yours (bottom far left). There is no knife like your model with those exact measurements of 2-15/16, so I would guess that your model was a size that was offered a bit earlier or a bit later than 1930. I have another Petty catalog that I will look through. It's just amazing how many models were offered by English and American cutlers in the mid-1800s through early 1900s.

Very nice Petty palette knife, Miller Bros.
There are no folding palette knives shown in that catalog, but there is a large selection of fixed blade palette knives offered.

Here is a nice little sway back Petty with a Wharncliffe blade. Flush tang at the bolsters with half stop.
Neat little guy. 2 3/4" closed.

FRJ, that's a fine old knife that sure packs a lot of character into a small package.
