All About Pocket Knives

It seems that this knife had several varieties.
They were only made for a few years (1983 - 1988 I think)

I have a 123OT but I have been looking around for the others now..... I think they are a very cool pocket knife!
They are a 4" long, scaled down version of the 125OT single blade Hunter (without a blade lock).

I have surfed around the net enough to know that the 124UH is the same knife made under the Uncle Henry name.
AND... the SC524 Scrimshaw line is the same knife again under simply the Schrade name.

It's just the right size at 4" closed. And, there's a fatter handle than on a Trapper, despite being slightly smaller closed. The full-size Folding Hunter (I own a Case CV 6265 that's more than 50 years old and is a family heirloom) is way too big and heavy for EDC, and the 4" blades fall afoul of certain blade limits (while there are no blade laws where I live in VA; in WV where I do most of my business, I think it's 3.5 if you don't have a CCW, and with one, it's no limit; but locally this is not enforced--I once went in Tractor Supply accidentally in my work clothes with a Mora on my belt, and no one even noticed it). I can't really carry it in my pocket either--have to use a sheath. Case's Pocket Hunter is too small to be a general-purpose EDC. It's a pointlessly scaled-down pattern aimed at collectors. Case has their "Mid Folding Hunter", but the only non-assisted (I really dislike assisted openers, especially closing them--I see no benefit over a non-assisted knife) models I can find are stainless. What older CV models I found were as much as $150. The USA Schrades are around $50. The 123OT is 4" and carbon steel, so yep; that's what I'm going with. I noticed the Taylor models are just $20. Not as good as a USA, but worth a try to see if I like the general pattern.

I have none--not even the full size models. Schrade's, without the thumb stud is most definitely better looking than Case's. Blade shape is better too. And, Schrade NEVER used a pocket clip, which really uglies up the pattern.

Here is one that has been rehandled in micarta, and a linerlock out of the much larger 125 OT has been fitted into it. It is one fine carry knife.

I actually almost bought that very one and a 6OT that had been fitted with a 6OTX one-hand opener blade. How's the workmanship?

It seems to be well done, and rare at the same time. LOL

Here are a few examples of this pattern. There is a plain white delrin which was used for scrimed knives there is a white scrimmed version there is a UH and an Ot Also there is a liberty commerative etched and in jigged bone. There is an orange version ( These were made on contract for smokey mountian knife works ( Kevin Pipes). Perhapes the most interesting is the black version which was a proto type never retailed. It had a slide lock in the handle. This knife came from the Research and development room and to my knowledge was to my knowledge was the only one made. LT

Dang Cal.... That liner lock is a GREAT idea on this knife! What a nice mod!

I have some parts for a couple of these on the way..... I might have to mod myself one up and make me one of those!

WOW.... thanks for showing all those different versions LT.

The Liberty version with the jigged bone is my favorite out of the bunch.

I have some parts coming for the 123OT. My thought when I ordered them was to put some jigged bone on the handles.

I don't have good pic's right now because I gave these knives to my Wife and she has them stashed away and is busy. Meaning the two Statue of Liberty knives referenced above by LT. The more common one has a silver wash on the blade and the much rarer one has a gold wash. Here are the only two pic's I have right now that are handy.

I wanted this knife, a plain-jane one, for a long time. But the only ones I found were $100. Finally spent $65 on a Statue of Liberty model, mint condition. Now it's "too nice to use." This happens a lot with me.

I think that is a common problem.

I think I saw a bunch of the blade blanks in stainless on Ebay yesterday.

Yep, I think I saw a batch of "UH" blades listed. I got a batch of 20 of the 123OTs on the way.
I also got me a couple of these.....


All I need to do is make a spring and I will have a couple of the PLAIN SC524s.

I managed to find myself a Statue of Liberty knife to go in my Pocket Hunter collection.

This one was out there on ebay. The starting bid was only $39.99 so I put in $40 and got it....
I guess nobody wanted it because of the piece that is broken out of the mark side cover.

The sellers pics were really dark so I tried to lighten them a bit.
I am going to think on this one a bit and see what I want to do to repair that cover.

I have the 124UH almost new. I’ve had it for quite some time. It is a lovely size, with a lovely blade.

Mike, No.. The Statue of Liberty knife was not made for either JC Penny of Sears.
Over 15,000 were made and registered at Schrade.
Sears and JCP may have sold them but they were true Schrade knives.

The Goodwife has the silver and the gold stashed away somewhere. The gold wash (500 made) is especially handsome.

I finally found an "affordable" Statue of Liberty knife out there on the bay. It has a small chip out of the cover on the mark side (of all places).

SO.... now you are telling me there is a silver and gold washed version....

I bought this 124 UH off of Dale, I love the jigged red bone he used to replace the Delrin.
