All About Pocket Knives

Hmmm , might be getting a little better at this ..

Interesting! May I ask what kind of whetstone was used? Was this a manual Arkansas Stone, hard or soft, etc. ?

Whetstone Grinder / Knife Sharpener .
220 grit stone , and runs through water .

Down the track I may want another with a much finer stone , maybe 800 grit .
I think people can see why it's not a good slicer on paper .

Sorry, but I would NEVER put a pocket knife by any maker to such a contraption nor would I ever recommend anyone else do so. Nor is that what comes to mind when I see the term “whetstone”.

I'm in total agreement with Ken on this one. That's not a whetstone, that's a grinder wheel. I might sharpen a garden hoe on that thing but no knife of mine will ever touch such a device.

Hehehehe .. Well ( it is a whetstone grinder / knife sharpener ) ... And the edge does not look McNasty to the naked eye .
But once you look at it at say 20x or 30x and up ..
Still , lays down a nice straight bevel . And on bad steel gives better edge holding / performance .
But yeah .. If I had an expensive knife , or serious collector item . I would not want to put it to the grinder .
But remember , it is magnified ( Somewhere from 50x to maybe 100x or more ) , edge is video'd VIA a microscope . And also it works and performs a function .
It's all about the grit ! Got to remove material to put down a new edge .
Thats why I got me a USB microscope . Will be showcasing edges as well as rope cutting .
Hmmm , factory edge goodness ! It's all information / data .

Whatever floats your boat, I guess. If you’re going to post stuff on YouTube I think more conventional sharpening methods would appeal to most viewers. I have no interest in viewing results from a process I would never use. JMO

I agree with others that the title of the thread is misleading. And I would not use that thing on any knife except some made in Pakistan that need to be destroyed.

I mean that I tend to not judge one person's sharpening routine or choice of tools over another's.
One man's skills set will be different from another's, as will his choice of tools.
As long as both arrive at a viable result, who is to say one is better or more valid than the other?

And I think many are jumping the gun to get their opinions out there for what ever reason ?
It's a big world . There is the right way of doing things . the wrong way . And where there is no right and wrong , their is your way . And if some one does not like your way ? What did your mom tell you ?

A) I have never told anyone what to do
B) The whetstone grinder is
1) Quick
2) Lays down a straight bevel
3) Shows up bad grinds / edges
4) A great starting point for a new edge
5) Works as is .. I will give it's not a good paper slicing edge . But on flesh = Ouch ! ( Think GINSU )

How far you take an edge ( 10,000 grit ? ) is your business and has nothing to do with me !

Well, actually, posting on an open forum kinda means you are willingly opening up for other opinions. Even those that don't agree with yours. Goes with that "freedom" you speak of ... differing opinions aren't spam.
And the only one jumping a gun over it is .... YOU ....

FYI , edges are magnified between 100x and 150x ..

And yeah , the kind thing to call it is spam . ( That's my opinion )
