All About Pocket Knives

I have researched and read on these two for two weeks straight but I'm still unsure how to verify c. Bertram contract knives. I picked up this little Voss cut co Germany pen/gentleman's stag knife and this kane kutlery solingen Germany jigged bone knife. I have read about the numerous contract knives made by c. Bertram and these two names were on many of the lists I have found but i also have seen info regarding Voss being owned by frost now and that not all Kane kutlery knives are c. Bertram manufactured. Can any of you more experienced "chicken knife" collectors help me to identify and date these two little beautiful knives? And give some advice on what to look for in a genuine pre 1980 c. Bertram contract knife...

The Voss Cut Co could well be a C. Bertram knife. The stag handles look like the stag on my C. Bertram knives.
The Kane Kutlery looks like a Parker knife which would have been made after C. Bertram went out of business.
C. Bertram Hen & Rooster knives rarely had a shield.
I am not an expert on the real Hen & Rooster knives so would be good to see a post confirming my assessment from someone more knowledgeable of the H & R knives.

They both feel like very high quality knives. Tight fit and good finish. Even if they aren't Bertram im still glad to own them.

I think the stag Voss pen knife is a C. Bertram knife. Without examining it in hand it is not possible to be certain. A C. Bertram knife will have smooth action, 'just right' snap tension, blades will seat snugly between the liners but no rub and the inside of 'knife well' will be well polished, almost to shiny bright.
If all that fits for your Voss then it almost certainly is a C. Bertram made knife.

Does look like a C.Bertram knife to me. Most of the one's I have seen were smaller knives like yours. Are the inside liners/spring polished?

The Voss is definitely polished with good snap and no rub. The Kane is half polished(you can still see grind marks on back springs), the snap is a little too tight compared to the Voss and the fitment of the bone/liners/springs leave a little to be desired. I think you fellas might be on to something here.

So who made the kane kutlery knife?

If it is marked Solingen, Germany then it could of been made by any one of a few dozen cutlery manufacturers. I am fairly sure it was James Parker who had these Kane Kutlery knives made. Unless some old paperwork was found between Parker and the manufacturer, there is no way to know which manufacturer made the Kane Kutlery knives.

I have had trouble tracing the kane for sure. If y'all get a chance could you post pics of your pre 1980 C. Bertram knives? Contract or not....
