Silver steel mark?

Another new one that i can't seem to find much about. Im familiar with silver steel, the product. However, I can't seem to find any info as to a maker or a manufacture date. Any insight? Thanks!

I have been trying to find out who used that mark. I have a small pearl handled four blade that has that stamped on each blade and the image of an owl on the back side. Good luck trying to find it and please let me know if you do. Here is mine.

Does "silver steel" refer to a type of steel alloy ?

I believe Silver Steel was a name used to identify the steel rather than the maker. Seen on early English knives and razors for the most part.

Thank you Wayne. Good link, basically says that Silver steel is a tool steel that can be hardened to Rc 64.

64HRC--wouldn't that make it an early super steel?

The British stadard is a modern one from 1970. The OP and other like marked old pieces predate this standard so I am unsure if there was any specific formula for the steel in them.

Very cool information! Definitely enjoyed reading everyone's comments, as well as, all of the research that I ended up doing as a result of what everyone shared. Silver steel seems to be quite interesting. However, with all of that being said, are they any suggestions on how I should proceed in regards to identifying the manufacturer and possibly the age of my knife?

I recently found this old knife with some legible stamps. I don't have any info to add, I'm looking for that now myself, just wanted to drop these pictures.

Levine lists an "Owl Cutlery Co." C.B.Barker , NY importer 1880 -1905. Knives made in England and by Napanoc, (USA) Since there is no country of origin stamped on it, the dates work. With only the owl stamp and no company stamp it's hard to say. Ir's a nice old relic, good luck. J.O'.
