How to repair a Gerber Bolt Action Exchange Knife

'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix this knife? I've bought it probably 30 years ago when I was in the USAF, and it's been stored away in a box for decades. At some point the "bolt" broke, but I have no idea when. I'm curious if it's just a small threaded bolt? I see that the hole is "D" shaped, so not sure if the bolt needs to be the same.

I sent photos to Gerber recently, asking if they could send replacement parts, but they just sent me a much smaller folding knife (Ultralight LST) as a warranty replacement, which wasn't exactly what I wanted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post a pic of the other side of the knife, where the nut and washer go.

I think it will have to be "D" shaped with a shoulder on one end and threaded on the other for the nut. It needs to stay indexed so the blade can be removed.

Is there an online store where you'd recommend I look for this type of screw / bolt?

Not that I am aware of. It will probably have to be fabricated out of a screw that already has the correct threads.

I have an antique knife left by my grandfather. Can anyone restore it without losing its original appearance?

Can you post some pictures of the knife, and the damage to it?

As suggested by WT315 Rita, pictures would be a big help. There are many talented knife mechanics on this site, so post some pictures and someone should be able to help you. Good luck, and ::welcome:: to AAPK! ::handshake:: 8)
