All About Pocket Knives

Here's another one I re-handled--this one was originally a shell-handled Colonial, which when I got it did not have any handles. I basically just cleaned it up and cut the material to fit. Glued on again, because I didn't see any point in taking apart a fully functional (though dirty and dry) knife.

The blades had never been sharpened, but needed it desperately. Wow, they took quite an edge!

On to one that I have to pin...gotta get that figured out. Woo-hoo!

It's an acrylic that I got from Jantz supply. They call it "Fantasy Marble" and the color is "Emerald Light". I've used a couple of different colors of the stuff, and it's pretty easy to work with. The slabs are pretty thick, though, so I cut them in half thickness-wise.

Okay, now that you've said that I do remember seeing that on their website. I was thinking about ordering some, but just haven't done it. Thanks.

With great difficulty and less success. If I had a band saw, I could use that, but I'm putting them in a vise and cutting through the thickness with a fine-blade hacksaw. I don't do a perfect job of it, so one side always requires more work to shape than the other.

The other thing that's true about this material is that one surface is more colorful than the other (as it is received). By cutting through the middle of the thickness, I get a more consistent color pattern between the halves.

beresman this shows you are a person of determination. I think most people would have sought out some other handle material that was the desired thickness.
