All About Pocket Knives

Is there anyway to remove the dark spots on a carbon steel blade without removing the patina? So far I've used steel wool and WD40. I used Flitz. Even did a little polishing with the dremmel using the red stuff. I got an older blade in real good condition. No pitting and no scratches.

I don't have any carbon blades but have a few SS blades that have dark spots ( like a freckle). I think
there is a "rust" development below the surface of the blade that no matter what you can't get rid
of it. Someone will come along hopefully and prove me wrong ( and will gladly try something since one is
a lovely yellow Doctor's knife #3185 year 1974)

When you say dark spot, what is it, rust or just dark coloring. I have no idea how you would remove a " Dark Spot" without removing the patina. But i ain't that clever.

WOW..... I don't know WHY but it WORKS!!

I read somewhere here on the forum just recently how it works, someone will answer your question. I think it was that the pencil lead is harder than the rust, but softer than metal so won't scratch the metal. But don't quote me on that someone with more knowledge than me will know.

I bet Scott cleans up a lot of knives for reselling em so he should know how to do it.
