All About Pocket Knives

This knife is marked Wenger Delemont Switzerland on the master blade tang. There is a sticker that says "BUCK" on both sides of the handle.
Is this a knife that was sold by Buck ?
If so, do Buck collectors consider it to be a Buck knife ?

For a period in the '80s and '90s, Buck marketed the SwissBuck series of knives made by Wenger in Switzerland (they also supplied scissors for a version of the Lancer with scissors) that all came with these black handles, aside from one called the Lady SwissBuck (based on the small 65mm Esquire by Wenger) that had white handles with the Buck emblem. The stickers are actually printed, inlaid metal badges. I think that model is called the Globetrotter. I had one that I had purchased as a part of a lot, but someone absolutely wrecked it (bent the tip of the blade, and over-torqued the Phillips so bad, it shattered and severely bent the liners), and I disassembled it for modding parts.

This is where it gets weird with me. It's a Wenger marketed as a Buck. I have containers for my Bucks, and my SAKs. I would store it with my SAKs because the tang stamp is Wenger.

I looked at eBay just now, and checked sold listings. Two sold new in box for $28 (plus $5 shipping) from the same seller. A used one sold for $20.

I know I would not consider it a Buck knife. This is something that American companies do all the time and I think it borders on fraud..

I really don't either. To me, it's a Wenger with a Buck shield. At least it ain't like the 37X series which are made in China.

Not sure I'd go as far as 'fraud'. They didn't try to hide the fact it was not their own design.

Actually they did hide it. Notice how the first thing you see is in very LARGE and noticeable letters BUCK, but you have to look further at the much smaller tang stamp to see the name Wenger.

This is from 1993. No fraud going on here at all.

There highly collectible because they appeal to people who collect either wenger or buck knives.

I had the one with the scissors, I gave it to my Grandson for his birthday. He was in hog heaven. ftd

I agree it’s more of a SAK than a Buck. It’s also the less popular SAK. But it’s still a neat knife. No fraud.

At that time Wenger was on the downhill slide if I recall correctly. Don’t forget Buck re-branded Camillus knives too.

Buck had approx. 27 models of SAK's (SwissBuck) made in 93. The 'Globetrotter' SwissBuck originally sold for $27.00 in 1993, according to BCCI Catalogue & Price Guide.
