All About Pocket Knives

I've had this knife for awhile now and every so often I pick it up with the intention of finally figuring out what the tang stamp says.Once again I have failed. So in desperation I am turning to the,"decipher gurus" on this forum to see if they would like to take a run at it. Tried taking pics of the stamp at various angles under a 3x lighted magnifier but it is still foiling me.SWAG's are welcome as well.

Thats a hard 1. I can make out the carb but I don't think there's enough room for high in the front of it. The first bottom word almost looks like fort. Good luck!

You've examined the knife quite a bit. What is your best guess on the lettering? Up at the top it looks like ??ARRY then at the bottom I thought North????? or even maybe Port Huron but don't get anything to go with those. If the knife had been in the mystery knife game with the tang stamp covered I would have guessed Syracuse. It doesn't look like an expensive, well made knife. Only a guess here that it was made by a major maker for a hardware or dry goods store or something along those lines.

I believe that's a George Worthington Hardware Co knife. It would read:

CLEARCUT
GEO
WORTHINGTON
CO

The "CO" would be mostly hidden behind the bolsters.

It is possible Eric.The one knife I have with the Worthington stamp is in an arc and does not have the Clear Cut mark.

I can't tell?

This is more likely what the OP knife's tang stamp looks like. Worthington had knives made by a number of different makers. The Clearcuts were the lower end knives with plastic and cell. handles:

Eric that was a great solve on that. The bottom line on the tang stamp makes it almost certain. Is it likely NYKC made that knife?

Thanks Bob! I think they're post NYK, more likely from some time in the 40's and 50's, even early 60's with the exception of the one Knife7Nut posted with the bone handle and arched stamp. That one's older, not sure of the maker though. The NYK's usually retained their tang stamps. Here's a NYK Worthington with the box:

That is a great knife AND box! Thank you for posting it. Here is a pic of the knife I have with the curved stamp.Sadly one blade is broken.

Wow I'll bet that was a looker when it was new! Still looks good! It looks very Ulster like.
