Hey folks , trying to match this bone fix this one up, any help please,, I could possibly make one from a bigger scale

I have fixed several knives in this condition by patching with Acra Glas. Link below.

How you gonna fix the non-original notch in the whole handle/frame??

The notch is original to the knife, so it will stay.

I have had a bunch of PBs, never seen one with the notch. Why would there be a notch on a spring operated knife?

That`s a darn good question ! however , its been seen on both of the larger double end knives.

The notched handles on the so called "mechanics jacks" were original to the knives and to my knowledge their purpose was to aid in the closing of deep seating blades. Mechanics jacks often incorporated blades with tips well above the center line of the blade which would result in having to place the sear hole in the tang in such a way that it would be nearly impossible to close the blade to the required depth to conceal the tip below the liners without this notch.

Hi Kaleb , nice to see you post! i could probably graft a similar colored/ picked bone pattern piece in and fill the gap to look decent , from your experience could the entire scale be made from Hunter model cover ? JJ.

It's been a bit since I've had a MJ through the shop but I believe you might be able to squeeze a handle from something like an invincible or victor model.

I’m going to patch this one up with acraglas, I thought I’d use a broken twig to press into the product to replicate the pattern, has anyone tried this and if so will the product skin up to allow me to attempt this or is there a better idea ?

I use a Dremel to match the jigging after the acraglass has completely dried.

Copy that. I never tried pick bone.

ive never used acraglas and its not here yet, will it skin up to allow for a stamped in pattern ? thanks guys

Well, I can't answer that. I have always just poured it then let it harden completely. I've never checked it before it harden.

After no luck finding a replacement and careful consideration , I decided to graft a piece of period and correct bone from a donor press button knife and blended the color , not my first rodeo on conservative restoration but it’s been a while. Before and after.
