All About Pocket Knives

It has a No.6 on both sides. On the blade is a “No.6 Sheffield steel” and two stamped markings on the other that look like Maltese crosses a bit.
I am not a collector of knives so no idea as to it’s value to a collector. Real? Fake? Value?

I wonder if there are stamped with No. 6 is because that was the street address of. Jos. Rodgers?

I believe that is a made in India or Pakistan knife that is trying to emulate a Joseph Rodgers.

Levine says it is a counterfeit made in India.

Not sure what a levine is? Or how it/he determined that?

I would be more interested of some items to look for that makes the counterfeit claim?

Levine is Bernard Levine, who wrote "Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values". It is one of the most used references for knife collectors.

The Maltese crosses were a symbol used by Joseph Rodgers & Sons. They were one of most respected cutlery firms back in the days of Sheffield excellence. The fact that your knife has the Maltese crosses, but no stamping of Joseph Rodgers is one indication that it is counterfeit. Joseph Rodgers address in Sheffield was No. 6 Norfolk St. The counterfeiters used the Maltese crosses and the reference to No. 6 to try to dupe people into believing they were getting an actual Sheffield made knife. The quality of your knife, even from the pictures, is in no way up to the quality of an actual Joseph Rodgers knife. The blade grinds, the poor fit and finish, the difference in material between the pins and the bolster and cap material all point to this. I don't believe Joseph Rodgers ever stamped No.6 on their bolster.

Bernard Levine made a life's study of knives of all descriptions. He has handled thousands upon thousands of good knives, and fakes. He is not infallible. However, through his handling of many similar knives, he has come to the conclusion that No.6 Sheffield Knife was a mark used by counterfeiters in India, likely when India was still part of the British commonwealth.
