Scale models(mostly cars)of all scales.........
Thought I would start a new thread that isn't exclusive to 1/64th scale vehicles. While Hot Wheels and Johnny Lightning vehicles(and others)seem to be the most popular models to collect, the details on some of them are not the greatest in the world.Although there are vehicles of this size that feature opening hoods and trunks and detailed engine compartments, these are usually quite a bit more expensive than the regular models that lack these features.
My accumulation of scale model vehicles runs the gamut from the smallest(1/160th scale)to the largest (1/4 scale) and everything in between. The usual rule of thumb is the larger the scale the more features they will have and the larger the price tag. the usual standard sizes for models are:
1/160th(1/144th)= N scale. 1/87th= HO scale. These models are designed to be compatible with railroad layouts of the same scale.
1/64th and 1/72nd scale is usually compatible with model aircraft.
1/43rd scale seems to work well with O gauge railroad layouts.
1/32nd scale works with larger aircraft.
1/24th and 1/25th scale are the norm for plastic model kits and dealer promotional vehicles.
!/18th scale seems to be popular as a display item with lots of details for a reasonable price.
1/12th;1/8th, and 1/4 scales are usually super detailed items with correspondingly super large prices.
There seems to be a profusion of other scales available for somewhat obscure reasons.1/28th scale seems to be popular for die cast vehicle banks. 1/16th and 1/20th scale vehicles never really seemed to catch on for some unexplained reason. 1/10th and 1/5th scale are popular for radio controlled vehicles although the larger ones are horrendously expensive.
And then there are the professional modelers such as Gerald Wingrove and Manuel Olive who seem to delight in crafting their masterpieces(Wingrove has a web site;not sure about Olive)in really oddball scales.Olive used to build many of his cars in 1/11th(!) scale.Wingrove will build anything in any scale you like.
So this post will feature cars in 1/43rd scale(and a couple in 1/42nd(!)from England;maybe they are METRIC! lol). Some of the 1/43rd vehicles have amazing detail to them. Most come from China now but in the past Rio and Solido from Italy ;Naccoral from Spain and Lesney from England and Schuco and Wiking from Germany were the leaders. Hope you enjoy this and please feel free to post any you may have. This will take about 5 posts so please be patient.

Re: Scale models(mostly cars)of all scales.........
Very nice and extensive collection.
When I was a boy, I built model cars, mostly using AMT and Monogram kits. I didn’t care for Revell for some reason.
I got to a point where I was drastically modifying the cars and my finished model didn’t look anything like the pictures on the box.
I built mostly hot rod type show cars and won several local model show awards. There was another local boy, whose name escapes me at the moment and he and I kept swapping 1st and 2nd place in the shows.
As I was approaching retirement, I started buying vintage Hubley metal car kits off Ebay. Those are the kits I could not afford in the 50’s and 60’s. They were $4.95 and an AMT or Monogram were $1.49.
I accumulated about twenty-five Hubley kits, unassembled, new old stock, for something to occupy my time in retirement.
I’ve been retired since December 30th, 2013, and I haven’t built a single one.

I hear ya Charlie! I entered my first model car contest in 1956 that was put on by Rod & Custom magazine. Didn't win anything but my entry got mentioned in the magazine(guess they didn't get many customized helicopters).Been building them off and on ever since.Got a Hubley Packard phaeton kit at a yard sale for $2 awhile back and recently decided to build it.Spent two DAYS just removing casting flash off the metal parts and smoothing them out only to find several pieces missing! It can be finished but I need to fabricate a couple of items.RobesonsRme.com wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 4:12 pm Very nice and extensive collection.

I still have quite a few unbuilt plastic kits in the basement;maybe they will get built after I'm gone.

Phewee mate , they just keeps coming and coming, and coming some more. All-round outstanding collection you've built up, labor of love in the finest terms.
Now to get everything organized mate, all it takes is starting with one.

Great little,"mini dioramas" SM! I love the first one especially.
Just out of curiosity what is that last little scooter withe the MG's on it? Never saw that before.
My military collection is a little soft;mostly aircraft although I do have some great HO scale stuff from RoKo in Austria and some really tiny slush mold vehicles I bought at a yard sale.Don't know if they were part of a diorama or maybe war games. They are incredibly detailed for their size. Here are some of them.
EDIT: The RoKo models are 1/87th scale.
