All About Pocket Knives

David Clark was the driving force behind the Heritage Series. David had been interested in the history of both Queen, Dollar Knife Co. and Schatt and Morgan. David personally tracked down and re-produced the 1903 and 1908 S&M catalogs. The 1903 catalog is leather bound and was the PERSONAL property of Charles B. Morgan!! Talk about a RARE find!!!
The Keystone Series had just finished up after 20 years and David felt that re-producing knives from these two catalogs might be a worthwhile adventure.
The plan was to chose a page from one of the catalogs and recreate those knives, as closely as possible. 1095 carbon blade steel, Norway iron was used to make the steel for the bolsters and they even used an old S&M Gowanda tang stamp which hadn't been used since 1902!
I personally thought this was a GREAT idea! Take it right back to the beginning!!

The first release was in 2011 and included the 2 re-produced catalogs with a complete set. 7 knives in this release

As I started to say, David's plan was to continue the Heritage Series for 20 years, just as the Annual Reproduction or Keystone Series had run.
But in 2012 Ken Daniels acquired Queen Cutlery from the Servotronics Corp. and he wasn't interested in continuing the Heritage Series. So only two sets of knives were ever made.
The second release, in 2012 was from page #34 of the 1903 catalog. 6 knives were released, 2 Cattle Knives, 2 Premium Stock knives and 2 Swell Center knives that Schatt called a Woodman's knife.
With the complete set a Walnut display was included.

FYI - I did a take off of the blade finishes noted in the S&M Catalogs 1 and 2 and thought they might be of some interest.

Schatt & Morgan Blade Finishes

1903 Catalog
Glaze finish – mostly iron bolsters and liners
Crocus polished one side – mostly NS bolsters and brass liners – page 11
Fine glazed finish – starting on page 27

1907 Catalog
Glaze finish – usually iron bolsters with iron or brass liners
Half polish – starting on page 11, usually NS bolsters and brass liners
Fine glaze finish – starting on page 17
Full polish with etch – starting on page 97, as a rule these had SN liners and bolsters
