ODE TO V4394-5

When I bought that 1956 Gibson Country Western I couldn't get enough playing on it. I keep my guitars out of their cases on stands and when I wasn't playing it I'd stare at it. (I know!) Anyway, being a song writer of sorts, I began to compose a tribute of verse. Martin guitars are manly, big square-shouldered things, but this particular Guitar reminded me of a lovely, older woman, slope-shouldered and graceful, but no "blushing virgin". So, I thought I'd write about "her" that way. Here it is, ODE TO V 4394-5. So far just a poem, or song words but , maybe I'll get inspired with some music.
That's the hard part! Feel free to try it yourself. J.O'.

Ode to V4394-5 -- John O’Dell, July 31st, 2019
She’s leaning in the corner, always ready for some tricks,
She’s seen a thousand stages, and she’s played a million licks
She’s known a hundred players, and she helped them get their kicks
Since she was new, in Kalamazoo, in nineteen-fifty-six.

Her face is golden lovely but her body’s chocolate brown
Her shoulders sloped and curvy and her neck is pearly bound
Her voice is rich and ringing, every note is clear and strong
And when you take her in your arms you bet you can’t go wrong

Her skin’s a little scratched up and she wears a few small scars
They say she’s somewhat patched up from the years she spent in bars
But her beauty runs much deeper than the marks upon her face
Upon the stage with ones her age she holds a special place

If she could tell her story don’t you wonder what she’d say
No doubt she’s seen some glory and some pain along the way
The ones she saw who made it and the ones she saw go wrong
No matter what the outcome was she helped them sing their song

To stand on stage behind her now you’d swear she had a soul
Her voice a sweet reminder how the music makes you whole
May luck that let you find her always be there in your stars
A lucky boy who knows the joy of Gibson’s old guitars.

(So) just listen to her beauty, sweet vibrations in the air
And treat her like a lady every night with lovin’ care
She’s bound to please another, someday after you’re long gone
With loving touch upon her strings, the music lingers on.

Ha!😅 The Lord has blessed me with many gifts and talents, for which I am grateful; writing music certainly isn't one of 'em! 😁

Ridgegrass, your very nice poem and sentiments reflect your obvious love for that beautiful guitar.
I enjoyed reading it and the picture.

Thanks Gentlemen. Funny story: I was singing a song I wrote a while back in a jam with a bunch of pickers. I was kinda proud of that song. When I got done, some guy said to me, " That ain't a real song is it? You just made that up, didn't you?" Oh well! What would old Hank say? J.O'.
