Western Hunter?

Does anyone know of these? Looks like a nice knife, but the description of it being heavier and bigger than an 062 had me concerned.

I am unsure about the knife, but the seller is well known for selling re-handled Western knives as "mint". I would be very careful dealing with this guy if I were you, I would not buy anything from him myself.

I am not aware of any other model of a two blade folding hunter from Western. But even if there were, and I don’t think there was, the knife looks far from mint to me. The blades look like they’ve been highly polished, and the bone doesn’t look like original Western bone to me.
But I’ve been wrong more than I like to admit. Soooo, I’d id pass if I were buying it for a spot in the collection. As a user I’m sure it would be great.

I have a Western Cattleman's knife with scales that look like green bone, will have to get it out and look up this knife when I get home tonight.

He does excellent work rehandling the knives, BUT where I have an issue with him is when he claims the knives are "near mint" when he has rehandled them in a material NEVER used by Western, Coleman-Western or Camillus Western.
Sorry, but no manufacturer of Western knives EVER used modern acrylics as handle material.
I'll admit I have bought a few from him several years ago that were really original but nothing at all in the last 4 or 5 years.

This probably is going to go over like a lead balloon, but Voyles does the same thing in his auction listings. How can a reworked knife be Mint?
This is the same guy who puts new, cool and colorful looking handles on old Western fixed blades and they sell like hotcakes at a mining camp.

Could this be the pattern? From Sargent's 2nd Edition. Including a shot of the Cattle Knife that has what could be green bone scales for comparison.

Possibly. Looks alot like it. Same nail nicks as well. Doe that say it's a Western in there also?

This picture is from Sargent's
American Premium Guide to Pocket Knives & Razors Identification and Values, 2nd Edition. This knife is pictured on Page 250 of the Western States knife section.
My knife is stamped WESTERN BOULDER COLO on all 3 blades. Hard to tell the exact stamping on his knife from the pictures he provides.

My concern about this seller outweighs any concern I may have for the knife. He neglects to add the word reworked to his descriptions but that may be because it doesn't go well with the word mint.
This seller or someone he deals with must have aquired parts from the Western factory and is putting handles Western never used in production on fixed blades. This OP knife could be a factory second given the lack of jigging on the front handle. Not a common version of Western's 2 blade folding hunter in that it has the saber ground master blade much like their coke bottle folding hunters.
I'm sure one of the buyers that pays outrageous money for his reworked fixed blades will love this knife.

I think that there may be up to three guys buying, selling, making and trading these bogus Western knives. I got fooled once about 2 or 3 years ago with re-done knives but I got smart quick. I think that there may be more than one username or account used by one guy, or some combination of a little group. The ones I handled were well done but not original. Modern acrylics. The prices he (they?) are getting are remarkable. The source is definitely Colorado, where the craftsman is working. I don't think that he is the one doing the selling on Ebay.

I have seen 2 eBay sellers dealing in these Western reworks. Could well be the same seller.
I know there is one seller on eBay that uses 3 different selling names and 3 different selling locations that are all within a few miles of each other. He uses a different background for each selling name but the descriptions, pricing and pictures are unmistakably the same. We have seen some of eBays' less scroupulous knife sellers change names as well. Tactics like this should raise some questions about how legitimate the seller might be.
