Help IQ another knife

Thank .you for all your help yesterday. You have all put a new perspective on how I look at knives which is very exciting to me.
Here's another knife from my great-grandpa. I can make out the words "Extra Quality" on the what I think you experts call the tang. I called it the blade yesterday.
I've already learned a lot about knives thanks to you. I think it is a bone handle. If you could help me with an approximate date and whether or not there is a pocket knife called an "Extra Quality" I would greatly appreciate it.

It is quite old and a pretty awesome knife.

I'm sorry I can't help with your knife Mark,
but it's a nice older knife that might be valuable to the right collector!

if someone here can't help identify it, then no one can!

With that short of a blade might it be a quill knife?

Interesting little knife! Could you provide a closeup of the tang stamp? Also a picture of the end of the knife with the blade closed? The handles are turned ivory and the ball shaped bolsters quite unusual.I would say it was a small pen knife rather than specifically a quill knife(for sharpening quill pens)as those usually only have a single blade. If I had to guess I would say it was likely mid-19th century and possibly of French origin but most likely English.

Can you post a close-up picture of the writing you see? I really like that knife - the bolsters and handles are very cool.

So, some you mentioned quill knife. I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not, but my great-grandfather left me this IXL George Westeholm Sheffield England Quill as well. It might go hand-in-hand with the knife I'm asking about???

Yep, ink eraser. Those tang stamps look like they say, "EXTRA QUALITY." Anything else on the blades? Very interesting knife, thanks for posting.

Redrider, I can't find any other markings on the knife other than on the tang.

I've seen straight razors with the words "Extra Quality" etched on the blade, but I don't think I've seen it as a tang stamp. Very interesting knife!

I'm not finding anything with an "Extra Quality" tang stamp in my knife books. Wish I could help.

I have seen very old British knives with ball end bolsters. It is quite a fancy knife with the carved ivory handles. I agree with Ray, most likely British and likely from early 1800's, possibly a 200 year old knife. Very neat find !

Welcome to aapk Mark.
I have exhausted all my books.
I do believe your beautiful knife is much older than your Great Grandfather was when he acquired it.
Your knife is one that I would expect to see within a 'Knife Auction' and I don't mean eBay.
Being that the words "Extra Quality" is in English. I also agree that it was made in Britain.
