All About Pocket Knives

What is a barbecue knife? Some of you will recognize I am borrowing the term from the Texas Rangers (and others) who refer to Barbecue Guns.
Barbecue Guns are extra fancy firearms. They are not duty guns. They might include engraving, gold or silver trim, ivory, MOP, other fancy grips. These "over the top" shooting irons are not for daily use but for social occasions such as weddings, parties, and of course barbecues.

By extension, I see Barbecue Knives as being exceptionally fancy, or highly stylized, or bearing some unusual design or art work. It is easiest to find these on fixed blades. For reference you could check out the knives that KLJ77 posted on October 7 in the Fixed Blade thread. But they are also found in folding knives. They might be tasteful or gaudy, but if you have any you think you would like to show at your next barbecue please share them whether one or several. This is no competition, it is just to have some fun with the concept of a Barbecue Knife.

BTW I'm from Texas and have never heard that about the Rangers, thanks for the info.

QS, I'm familiar with BBQ guns. A practice of some of the wealthier ranchers as well. I like the concept being transferred to knives as well. On another note the wealthy ladies have their 'bridge rings', a ring to show off while holding your cards playing bridge. And the saying ' the smaller the hand, the bigger the ring'. But I digress.

That's funny about the ladies which I had not encountered before. Thanks for the input.

Will this one work as a Barbecue Knife

I wonder what that tastes like, barbecued mammoth? I can recall years ago some archaeologist dug up a mammoth that was still frozen and cooked some of the meat that had been dead for thousands of years but frozen the whole time. Bad case of freezer burn?

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought this was what you were talking about. At least the Texas longhorn meat fork is in line.

K7K, I think most everything there qualifies because of its classy styling. The Longhorn fork could secure a heck of a bolo tie.

Speaking of bolo ties;here are a couple that might qualify and a belt buckle from a couple of Texas boys;Jim & Doyle Nolen

First Bolos I've seen with knives used as the clasp. The first one is amazing tho it looks like it would be quite heavy. The belt buckle defines the word bling. There would be many envious eyes at the barbecue.

Looks like a fun thread; I am thinking of one fancy North Carolina BBQ knife that I have, a daddy barlow by Herman Williams. That NC BBQ is quite different from TX style but both are wonderful. Is that 'balloons' OP knife from TXCASEEMPORIUM?

This Buck would be my BBQ knife.

It is actually quite light and comfortable to wear.It was made by Jim Turecek of Derby CT about 30 years ago and was I believe the last one he made.Told me they were too labor-intensive. He still makes custom knives to this day.
The second and third ones are not removable.The second one was unmarked as was the third one but it was made by the Nolen brothers as well.I know because it was authenticated by Steve Nolen;the son of one of the brothers who is a great knifemaker in his own right. The belt buckle was from the mid 1970's and was a horse trade that I really made out on.

A little Sunday knife for gettin' the bbq sauce from out'n yer fingernails. Think brisket, slaw and cheap bread.

That's pretty dang fancy.
