All About Pocket Knives

I collect Case knives and I picked up this buck knife was wondering if anyone new anything about it. Was going to use it on the farm but if it’s something I should lay up I will. If not worth a lot will use it for a every day carry . It’s light weight and sharp would be good to cut strings on hay bales.

Not familiar with that model, but it has the late Chuck Buck's signature on it. That was done by the Buck's at regional knife shows, Blade Show, etc. Some folks collect those signature knives (no, I have no idea what the value might be). If if doesn't bother you to eventually wear that down, then go ahead and use it. Thanks for the info on my buck. I found the dating info good on the forum I been looking up some of the other buck knifes I have. My father gave me a 119 that I have used for years for deer hunting and he has passed and I could never remember when he gave it to me. Found out it was made in 2000 and he bought it new for me then. It’s been a great knife but just has always been hard to sharpen. Holds a edge good but hate sharpening it.

IMHO...your knife is a pretty special knife, for it was only made by Buck for two years. Buck came out with your knife in 2001, and did not make this knife after 2002. So, for a 18/19 year old knife that appears to be in pretty good condition, along with CJ Buck's and Chuck Buck's signature on the blades, more than likely, there are not too many of them around. I do not know how many of these knives were made, but they were all made in Seki, Japan.

Your knife is a Model 274 2.5 ECCO or a Model 275 3.0 ECCO. Buck made two different sizes. The 274 has a closed length of 3 1/4 inches. The larger version, the 275, has a closed length of 4 inches. The 274 is considered the 'compact' model. The handles on both knives are made of Glass Filled Zytel.

Original cost of the 274 was $42.00
Original cost of the 275 (larger model) was $46.00

So, what about the worth? Conducting a search on Ebay revealed that these knives are selling anywhere from $25.00 to $80.00, depending on condition or new. With that said, you'll have to determine whether your knife is a 'user' or a 'safe queen'.

Wow ! Some great information on my knife. I think I might just put it in my safe and pack another one. I have been buying and collecting knives since 1970 when I was in HS. I thought I new a lot a about knives but I am amazed of all the knowledge People have on this site. Thanks for the Info

I got, modified - by grinding of the serrations (serrations are totally useless on a whittlin' knife) - and sold a lot of these knives in both sizes, to my whittlin' class students about 18 years ago.
Just yesterday I commented to someone about what a great knife this is and how I wish that they would be made again.

Though they look a lot different, on overall concept - two locking blades, no springs, one handed opening - they are amazingly like the Kershaw Double Cross and Double Duty, also, (sob!) no longer made, though likewise awesome whittlin' knives with a bit of tweaking.

By the way, the larger of the two Bucks in this configuration were made in Japan, but the smaller one that I have, and any that I remember seeing, were marked "USA"
