All About Pocket Knives

Here's a blast from the past for you. A Buck 107 I picked up at a hardware store in Hot Springs, SD. Around 1970 or 80. I've cleaned a LOT of rabbits and fish with it. Note the price tag and excuse the poor pictures.

$20 in 1975 (middle of your estimate) is $96 in todays money so.................

Neat knife. Do they still make it?

I'm not sure if they do. I know it was produced as part of a steak knife set for a while and then Buck made sheaths for them and sold them individually.

It's a handy knife. Keeps a good edge, has micarta handles and rides well on the belt.

I think the Buck "100 Series" fixed blades are under appreciated. I like them. A lot.

The 107 is one I don’t have, but I know it is well respected, among people who actually use them. Nice knife for sure.

That's a cool picture John! Do you still use your 107? I dug mine out of retirement and am contemplating putting it back to use.

The Buck Model #107 Scout was first made and introduced by Buck in 1976 for $18.00. Buck stopped production on this knife after 1991. There are still some being sold on the bay, but they're asking price is sometimes pretty steep, depending on what kind of shape it's in. They are a nice vintage piece if one comes across one for a reasonable price.

In 2011, Buck made a Limited Edition of 250 of these, serialized w/Elkhorn scales and retailed for $370.00. You don't see many of these, and when you do...they're asking high dollar.

Appreciate the history! I've looked at prices of these on the bay and was surprised at their prices. When I first got this one I used it all the time. It's a great small game knife.

I was thinking of carrying it again because it's so handy but since they're so pricy I'm going to rethink that. I bought a 117 a few months ago and I think I'll stick with it. It's a pretty handy size as well.

I couldn't remember just when I got it so according to your information it must have been around 1980.

Always good to know a bit of history regarding a vintage Buck knife. Your 117 is a great knife for your small game. The 118 and the 105 are pretty nice knives for small game too, depending on your style and hand size.
