Case 32024 1/2 Dressed Up In Ivory (well, synthetic ivory)

I haven't posted for a while, so here's what I've been up to lately. I was lucky enough to acquire a group of 4 very nice Case XX knives with deteriorating celluloid scales (first pic). Several months ago I saw a knife done by Jeff (Jeffin), very, very nicely in synthetic ivory. Of course, I had to buy a sheet of the stuff. I've been itching to try it on something and the 32024 1/2 (small jack at the top of the first pic) seemed to be calling for it. I generally don't like working on the smaller knives, first because they aren't my favorite, and second, because I seem to have better outcomes with larger knives. The synthetic ivory is a more delicate material than I am used to and I definitely need more practice with it. (I just noticed a crack that I apparently created by one of the rocker pin heads.) At the bottom is what I did with the 6185 Doctor knife in greenish bone. I'm much happier with the outcome on that one. I have some ideas about what I'm going to do with the 2-31093's (toothpicks), but haven't decided quite yet. Decisions, decisions.......

Great work, Herb! Nice way to restore some cool knives with pristine blades but blown out scales.

A real first-class job, Herb! I have not worked with the synthetic ivory so I know nothing about it, but it sure looks classy and beautiful on that Case!

Reverand, here's the link if you are interested:
https://www.masecraftsupply.com/Alterna ... c_268.html As I mentioned, Jeff turned me on to it, and I do appreciate his sharing the information with me. As far as I am concerned, the jury is still out, but I do plan to try it again. (I have a whole sheet of it.) It is a bit more delicate than I anticipated, and I hate it when a pin crack shows up the day after I finish up on a knife. Very annoying! I need to be more careful next time.

It’s an interesting material but I agree with you that it’s a little more fragile than you might think. Acrylics are usually pretty forgiving but the synthetic ivory is a bit brittle.
It looks great when finished though!

Don't let it curdle your milk. Even those who consider themselves professionals get a pin crack now and then. Of course there is a percentage of them that blame it on someone or something else so it's not their fault.
