Schrade LB 8? GMC?

Looking for some information on this knife. I bought this at Blade Auction back in the day for my brother and he has recently gave it back to me because he don't use it. Does the GMC actually stand for General Motors Corp.?

I don't think it's a Schrade knife.
It looks more like a Pakistan( or maybe China ) made knife.( There was General Motors Corp and was also a cheap Asian power tool company going under GMC.
I could be wrong. ( I will see what other answers you get )

That is what I think, also. Definitely not Schrade and unlikely to be U.S.

I would also agree with the not Schrade.
Rounded bolsters, 5 pins and stainless stamp on back of blade. all non Schrade.
Pakistan would be my guess.

Perhaps a Kabar 1189 SFO for GMC (as in General Motors Corp).

Schrade did make a couple SFO's for GMC with similar stamping. I kinda thought I'd see a LB7 with or without a "tit-nit" blade when I read the thread title.

What is a "tit-nit" blade ?
For those not familiar with Schrade, there are many similar looking large 5" lock backs 'out there'. To ID the Schrade LB7 look at the front bolsters. The curve of the handle is not continued through the bolster. Instead the curve becomes a flat forming the top surface of the bolster. This is where the serial numbers were marked during the first few years of production until serial numbers were discontinued.
Have a look at front bolsters on O.P. knife and then look at the front bolsters on the LB 7's posted above by bladecollectorr and you will remember what to look for in future to spot an LB7 .

kj knows the LB7 voodoo. That is indeed a quick way to spot them.

Thanks Jason, that's what I meant. According to wikipedia "TiN" or "Tinite" are more common short-forms but folks on these forums have used the "tit-nit" moniker so I went with it. The 240TX XTimer was a Walmart SFO that had the Titanium Nitride coating.

I've seen "tit-nit" used also. The first time I giggled. Titanium Nitride gives you a gold finish. If you add a dash of carbon to the recipe you get Titanium Carbo Nitride (TiCN) which is MUCH harder than tit-nit and turns the blade a darker grayish, kind of purplish color. That's what the 24OTX got and I suspect the GMC above as well.

That makes total sense. Wikipedia pointed that out. I should have read the whole article. I stand corrected. TiCN is what's on the blades. Tit-Carbo-Nit?

I believe it's a Kabar as well, I've seen a few identical to the OP's knife. You're also not very likely to see an SFO stamp on a Pakistani knife.

First off I want to say thank you to all who responded to my inquiry about this knife. Secondly of all the years me and my brother had this knife I always thought it was a Schrade but now I know for sure that it is indeed a Kabar 1189.
I definitely knew that it was not a knife made in Pakistan or China, it's just to well made to be from these countries.
I have another question now...What does SFO stamp stand for?

Glad to be of help. I like solving these little mysteries.
aapk has a dedicated Kabar forum. I searched "1189" and learned they started making them in 1973 and that it has a "440 stainless" blade. If you asked about the 1189 in that forum you might well learn a great deal more about them.
