Patriotic Pooch

Some of you may be familiar with Jim Fenton's carvings. He posts them frequently on several Facebook knife-group pages. Somewhere around the 4th of July, he posted a carving of a Patriotic Bear. I was so impressed...I thought I'd try my hand at it. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, right? I just finished this up, this morning. My face didn't come out right and indeed looks more like a dog...so, I carved in some ears on the side. I'm calling it a Patriotic Pooch. I messaged Jim and showed him my efforts and asked if I could give him credit, over here, on AAPK. I told him, I'm thinkin'...between being a dog...and the star on the top of the hat ...I'd technically (and legally) avoided any copyright infringement; ha! He replied back, that it was a character, from one of Jim Shipley's carving books..and, that I was OK. This is my 4th attempt to carve anything. It took me 16 sessions and 31 hours to complete. I'm sure he knocks out his carvings in fractions of the time.
I intend to give it to my son and his wife, at Christmas. He is in the Navy, assigned to the USS George Bush, at Norfolk, Virginia.
Not sure, how to get the final 3, to appear upright, here; however, if you click on the images, they will appear upright.
