I don't want one of these but I'm looking forward to what else GEC might do with the #35 frame on this run.

I think that's the oddest "knife" I've ever seen. I hate to be obtuse but what the hey is a "beard refuse removal tool" and how is it used. It looked to me like a pet grooming tool.

As a general rule, I like Great Eastern. I think they make some fine knives. Excellent quality. I own many GEC's and like them all.
But as far as that variant of the #35 pattern, it has to be the stupidest looking knife I've ever seen. The shield and beard comb are ridiculous.

I don't want to sound hateful, but the beard comb has to be their dumbest tool idea, ever. This is a little bit on the "hipster" side if you ask me. However, if they do it with just the fork/opener and blade, I'd love it. I don't think GEC has ever done a Hobo.
The beard comb has me a little curious--wonder if it'll work on a horse's mane/tail? The cheap $15 tack store Cashel Horseman's Knife I have has a "thinning comb" which is sharply ground (also works well at sawing wood), and used to get stuff like burrs out. But then again, I bet this knife is smaller than my old Cashel.

Very odd. And might only appeal to men with a beard which is only a small portion of those who buy GEC knives.
The #35 is one of my favorite GEC patterns but this one does not speak to me. The fork looks rather like the wood disposal picnic style, not elegant looking at all.
Wonder if they spent their time off smoking herb ?

Here's my take on the knife. As bizarre as it might sound and using the description as a guide.
1. You're sitting in a bar drinking beer and eating sausage. Maybe some summer sausage or just whatever.
2. You use the bottle opener on the fork to open the beer bottle. You use the blade to cut the sausage. You use the fork to eat the sausage.
3. Then when you're all done you comb the debris (or refuse) out of your beard.
4. The next time you use the knife you have beard hair in your sausage.
Sounds pretty straight forward to me.
All kidding aside, I think this knife is going to be a big hit with collectors. It's just odd enough that many will want one. A high quality novelty knife, you might say.

I love this knife. It is all about fun , it is a gimmick fun knife. No production parts photos of the beard comb are shown. I think Bill Howard is messing with us , again. Pre-production drawings are never the last say. Nobody on any knife forum is talking about the scales , but me. (Autumn Leaf jigged bone) This is a true Octoberfest knife. Comb or no comb , I want one ! The Zulu spear blade will be great for spreading sauce or mustard. These knives will fly regardless.

It looks like Maher & Grosh will be having a GEC made #35 knife too. I looking forward to see what those SFO #35s will be. I am sure they will have some in Ebony wood. I hope some are made in Antique Honey Bone. Green Tea jigged bone would be awesome too.

Just about any color other than some form a brown would be welcome. Enough with the brown already. I agree, this knife doesn’t appeal to me either. Unfortunately I have no use for a comb and haven’t for many years now. Besides a metal comb would hurt, especially on a beard.

AAPK supporter Mr. Frank of Franks Classic Knives is taking pre-orders on the "Beer & Sausage" #35 knife, right now. [email protected] I just love Mr. Frank. He is 75 years old. He moved to Waynesville , NC after retiring in Florida. He counted 3,500 knives after un-packing. He started selling knives at knife shows and selling knives on the web. He has GEC , vintage Case XX , Schatt & Morgan , Queen ,T.A. Davidson , Bill Rupel , and other fine traditional and fixed blade knives. Visit his AAPK store. I gravitate towards the odd and conversation starting knives, so I actually like it. Having somewhat of a beard and loving sausages with beer, I can see the usefulness of this knife.

I talked with Mr. Frank today. Franks Classic Knives will be receiving sixty-five GEC#35 Beer & Sausage knives . Mr. Frank emails and phone orders were booked up solid. Everybody is complaining about the comb, but there is no shortage of buyers. "GEC KNIFE COLLECTING IS WAR ! " GEC is out of Bovine Cattle bone. The #33 Conductor Antique Autumn wavy jigged bone knives have been released and the Sambar Stag #33 knives have pinched bolsters !

Which poll numbers you looking at? Only a small percentage who buy GEC knives have beards? The poll of Common Sense.
None of the female buyers have beards. Some of the men who buy GEC knives have beards. I sure beards are 'regional'. In some places many men have beards. In other places only a small minority of men have beards. Add it all up and most buyers of GEC knives do not have beards.

The bone color in the #35 drawing is Antique Autumn leaf bone. More yellow/orange/red colors than brown. Bill Howard always saves that color for something special. No combs have been photographed and posted yet. CollectorKnives shows that reservations “IT HAS NOT YET OPENED’ Status : green., Interest level: Reservation Closed. Does this mean the reservations haven’t been taken yet or does it mean reservation have been taken and now closed?

Collector Knives posted the pre-order schedule today. I believe you have to pick only one of the three. These will be produced in low numbers. I can't say anything more. (Not Confirmed) I am going with the Autumn Leaf jigged bone. These pre-orders are disappearing fast . Contacting Mr. Frank ASAP is your best chance of scoring one. GEC#35 "Beer & Sausage" Natural Canvas Micarta and Ebony wood , take your pick.

Reserved one on collector knives. I have a soft spot for oddball multipurpose knives. I do wonder if all the tools are going to be the same carbon steel.
