All About Pocket Knives

Does anyone have any information on this axe? I think I see military markings "U.S." and a flaming ordnance bomb symbol on it, the numbers "12" and " E G W". It is a Finishing or Broad Hatchet. Any ideas on the markings on this axe? Let me know if you need any more photos.

I can't give you an specifics on that model, but I know E.G. Waterman, American Fork and Hoe and a number of other companies made axes for the U.S. military during WWII.

Thanks for the response! I think E.G. Waterman is a good place to start. The "W" is a little hard to see in the photos, but I would that is a good direction to research as the E G W matches up with E.G. Waterman.

I found this;
The initials “EGW” stand for E.G. Waterman and Company of New York City. They made a number of similar knives some with wooden handles and others (like the one I found) with stacked leather washers. These were sold direct to the consumer as hunting or sportsman’s survival knives with military applications as well during WW2

I'd like to see the whole thing, but it looks kind of like a broad axe or hewing axe. If so it could be U.S. Forest service and not military.
