All About Pocket Knives

I have been buying and trading knifes for 30 years now and it is still as much a thrill today as it was when i was 10.
I like most any kind of knife and will buy most any kind as well.
I'm not a (case only) kinda guy, but I do like case knifes.
My favorite sort of knife is an old beat up one, maybe the blades are pitted or handles worn down and it is hard to read the tang or something.
Now I wont give a fortune for this knife but I still am interested it.
i like to open it look at its flaws and decide if it is telling me something.
I picture who bought it, and why.
Was it a gift for a son or husband?
Do you think they liked it?
Maybe it was the last gift they ever got for there Dad or something like that .. And if they were to see it today would they recognise it as DAD'S Knife..
I know I would ..
Has it skinned squirrels or peeled apples?
Every old knife out there has a story to tell, It has its own history..
It is not all ways what the price guide tells me that causes me to buy a knife..
A vintage knife from (CASE) lets say, pre 64, it's mint, still looks brand new.
That is a fine knife to own for its value..
And the pride of owning it..
But it says (hey I have been taken care of and i'm still perfect)..
But take the same knife and let it have been used and Pitted and dropped, Maybe lost for years then found.
That knife to me says- HEY I'm still around and man have I seen this world from a front pocket, maybe I aint pretty but i'm doing the job I was made for, I've seen the 40's ,50's 60's 70's 80's 90's Ect.
I like knives like that ..
Now dont get me wrong,
I have old knive's that look like new one;s < and there gonna stay like that as long as I got'em (I call'em baby knives) Cause not a one of them have ever had to prove themselves...
But i have the other ones to
and once in a while they still get to do what they do best..
Be a knife....

Very well put !!! I once heard a story about a old fella passing away. When the sons, daughters, grandkids, assembled at the kitchen table with gramps knives all laid out, grandma started with the eldest son on down and told em all to choose. ALL the oldest well worn ones with a story they remembered about gramps were the First to go. NOT the Mint shiney ones. Recon that says it all !!! Will
