All About Pocket Knives

I'm looking to find out what handle variations have been used on the 119 Special other than that plain and boring black phenolic? (I sure wish Buck would come up with some other offerings beyond black phenolic. How about a black micarta like on the 124 for example)

I'm familiar with the white bone, stag, and red micarta so I'm mainly interested in other variations beyond those and that boring black phenolic.

Copper & Clad was offering one with red phenolic handles but the last time I looked, it was out of stock. There's also one in Cocobola and of course the specials have various handle materials.

Buck offers many different types of handles on the 119.

These are:

Elk/Walnut spacer
Shokwood
Bluewood
Buckeye Burlwood
Ironwood
Black Palmwood
Cherrywood
Walnut
Dymalux
Rosewood
Cocobolo

Take your pick.

The 119 is easy to find with different handle materials. You can build your own on Bucks web page. The other models are much harder to find with cool handles.

I have Crown Sambar Stag, smooth bone and cherrywood as well as Black Phenolic 119’s.

There are some really nice looking Lucite handles available off and on too.

The Black Phenolic May be plain and even boring, but it is a great handle material for a user. I’ve never seen one chipped cracked shrunk or swollen.

The smooth bone is very nice. BasPro had them as an exclusive. When the merged with Cabelas the Smooth Bone Bucks were discontinued. I had been hoping they would slowly release the entire line with the smooth bone. 1 each year around Father’s Day would have been perfect.

Copper & Clad had the 119 so I guess there is still hope for the rest of the set.

There are a couple of guys on blade forums that live near the Buck factory that get lots of 1 off knives. One of them had 2 knives specially made for me to complete a set. I don’t know how he did it the 121 fisherman isn’t even in production right now. These are both one of a kind knives. Point being that if you want something specific it doesn’t hurt to ask.

They both sell on eBay or direct. Now is a good time to be looking. The big Father’s Day sale at Buck is a time when oddballs come to the surface.

Some really nice looking knives; however, some of them are overpriced, imho. But as the saying goes; "value is in the eye of the beholder"...or something like that. Mr. Houser & Mr. Remer do design some nice knives.

Over priced? I’m not sure I agree. I respect and trust all involved. They all deserve a profit, and eBay is getting more and more greedy. With that said they are too rich for my blood. But fun to look at.

I respect and trust all involved too, but I wasn't referring to a person's integrity. All I was saying was; some of those knives are 'overpriced', and I stand by that. I also agree that a seller, no matter the venue, deserves to make a profit. But I know what the original retail price is on a lot of Buck knives...so I'll let it go at that.

I think we are on the same page.
