All About Pocket Knives

Can anyone tell me some history of Schrade's 3rd Generation knives? When were they made, were they big sellers, etc? I've had this partial set for about 3 years now.

I just found the AAPK Schrade site, which led to collectors-of-Schrades-r.us site. There, I found price lists for 1983 & 1984 with the 3rd generation knives. Nothing before or after - they must not have been very popular.

Here is one that some of us acquired as a Forum Knife from another place and time.
You might try posting this in the Knife Lore forum, as there are several knowledgeable guys there that don't always check the other forums.

Nice set of Schrades,Rustle!!!

Rustle47, the bfc Schrade forum knife was my project. There was an issue of 30 odd knives. The back is engraved "Uncle Henry's Lost Souls". It was issued the year after Schrade had gone out of business and long, long after Schrade's representative had left the forum.

The secret to making a somewhat sucessful forum knife? One person, with a little input from one other trusted individual, takes the ball and runs with it. He picks out the knife, decides on the engraving or etching and offers it as a fait accompli to the group. Too many people involved leads to the old thing about a camel being a horse designed by commitee.

Cost is important; I delivered the knives for $50 each, as I recall. There was a prototype, which was sent to our most senior forum member as a gesture of respect and affection. That worthy (LT632ret... find him in the KNIFE LORE FORUM) supplied a bunch of Schrade 'stuff' (keychains, pins, whatnot) to present with each knife. The trusted individual (lrv.. now a member here as well) printed a nice certificate of authenticity for each knife.

It was a labor of love for me. Brings back good memories and I thank you Bill for showing yours off here.

Yeah, Bladeforums.com (Schrade Forum). A site I am banned from for life. Or longer. The forum knives are in three countries, and from one end of the USA to the other. Hey, I felt like Frank Buster, doing those things.

I have watched the 'AAPK club knife' threads for a while. It's going nowhere. Why not do it as a real club would do? Have the officers of the club decide what, how much, ect. And then present it to the forum members. Three people would do, have Bryan put the names of the moderators in a hat and draw three. No, not everyone will be happy, but that is life... and just like life in a brick and mortar knife club, where not every member buys every year's knife.

The purpose of a club knife is to provide the members with something special, something of their own, something to tie them all together.

Phil, This idea needs it's own thread. At first I got a little mad at you, then I realized that I mostly agree with you. I certainly don't expect to have any say in what kind of knife "the club" decides on. The only say I will have is whether I want to cough up the $$ or not. But then I am just a newbie to AAPK. Bryan has my support in the matter, for what it is worth, as long the knife is under $100. Maybe even club dues to cover some expenses. Enough soapbox - yuk, poo. I'm going to fondl.., I mean oil some knives and try to feel better.
