All About Pocket Knives

Good afternoon friends,
I purchased this old Camillus knife online from a little antique shop. I offered them $25 shipped and it was sent out to me arriving just the other day. It was pretty rough looking, but hadn't had time until now to clean up a little and post.
Just curious if anyone here can help with what exactly I've acquired. From my research it dates back to the 40's ? ... what model it could be? The blades have some pitting, can't exactly say if one has been modified...but it's a neat old knife. Glad to show it off to y'all...

Very nice find! The tang stamp should have a "U.S.A." hiding under the CAMILLUS NY. If so, this knife has the 4-line tang stamp known as the "4-liner", said to be used from the early 1930's to the mid 1940's. It's not one of the patterns I am familiar with , but perhaps one of the Camillus experts here will chime in. The exact length (with the blades closed) might help.

Nice catch! It appears (from my basement computer and without washing my spectacles), that the master clip blade has been broken off and re-profiled on this old soldier cattle knife. Looks like Rogers Bone Company bone covers. Clip, sheepfoot and spey. I am guessing pre-war (II).

I'm thinking it is a #70? Here's one...but it's got a different shield...and blade might have been a spear on yours? Maybe a relative

Yep! Found the USA hiding on one of the blades

Appreciate the additional information, I thought maybe that one blade might have been reshaped. This is a really neat knife and overall and I couldn't be happier with my investment.

You say "approximately 4" closed". In knife collecting we do not go by "approximate". Length is usually given to closest 1/16th of an inch, although most size increments are in 1/8th of an inch. Size is needed to know which pattern number it is.
Yours is a "Cattle knife" pattern. My guess is 3 5/8" or 3 3/4" closed. A 4" Cattle knife is very big for this pattern.
And i agree, pre WW II and after WW I. A good old well used Camillus Cattle knife.

Sorry Kj, had to get the little measuring tape out to get an accurate reading, and your guess is correct at 3 5/8" thanks for helping me out here

.....does it have 3 backsprings??...I have a knife that's similar, but it's closer to 3 5/8" closed and has a plain bar shield and the 3 backsprings!!...... ............

I think this is one of the varieties of #14 pattern...
