Have to have one

I figured everyone who buys knives to use or collect has to have a KA-BAR fixed blade knife. I finally got my first one.

The first picture is the dealer's picture. The one in the sheath is mine. Can't find "my" picture of the unsheathed knife.

Well I had one, a dull one used to dig in my sand box as a child. Does that count? Army surplus was dirt cheap in the 1960s so most families used some of it for camping. The one thing I still have is my father's GI hatchet. Unfortunately from a collector's view he painted its handle red so it would be easier to spot. I wouldn't mind having his surplus small folding shovel in my car trunk but my mother threw it out. The military still issued those old 7" blade fighting knives fairly recently so they must still serve a soldier's needs. Technically Ka-Bar is not their name. Ka-Bar was not even the largest manufacturer of them. If memory serves, which is doubtful, they are the Mark 1 Fighting Knife. While they are on the large side for campers and hunters a few men still carry them around town regularly. It is rural enough here that no one minds. The longest serving county judge was quoted on the front page of the county rag saying some men like to carry their hunting knives all year and that's fine with her. I only use knives that large and heavy for cleaning salmon. They're great for whacking off the tail and severing the spine behind the head. Other wise, I prefer smaller fixed blades.

Great looking knife you have!
Not a fixed blade guy myself. Just not practical where I live (pretty much the suburbs of Philly), and certainly not allowed in the school where I work.
Certainly doesn't stop me from appreciating a fine looking knife, be it fixed or folding.

Great knife that comes with a great sheath. It just hangs right and does what it’s supposed to. Replacement sheaths are dirt cheap too. I agree everyone should have one. Enjoy yours.
