Case Signature Series

I’ve been a life member of the CCC for so long now I can’t remember. I got an offer for a Case TB Saddlehorn single blade, exclusive to CCC members in the mail on Saturday. It raises a few questions for me. 1) is this Signature Series new? I don’t remember seeing this before. 2) is this made differently than the other Case knives? 3) if it isn’t made differently, why is the price so dog gone high? 172 dollars with a walnut display box seems awfully high to me for a knife made the same way all the other knives are made at half the price.
After buying a large collection several years ago, I have figured out that the display boxes, plaques and anything else they throw in to display knives, takes up a mountain of room and adds very little to the value down the road.
Granted the knife in the flier is an incredible looking knife and I wouldn’t mind having it, but not sure I can get past that price. Thoughts, answers?

It’s a beautiful knife, at least the pictures are. There have been others in past years. You should have received a mailer for them in the past. From a post on the CCC forum:
1. 2015- Muskrat Peach Seed Jigged Crimson Bone Handles
2. 2016-Trapper Single Blade
3. 2017-M-Texas T-Pick "
4. 2018-Sway Back "
4. 2019-Sod Buster Jr "
I agree the $172 asking price seems high, and apparently we’re not the only ones who think so. There’s a post from the club manager on the CCC forum site that addresses exactly that question. See the first sticky post, at the top of the “Collecting” thread.

BTW I don’t have any of them either.

Thanks Ken, I haven’t checked in on the CCC forum for a few weeks, I will stop on by there. I sure don’t remember these coming out in the past and none of those you have listed rings a bell for me. This one is beautiful and really caught my eye.

Mark when you get time to check in on the CCC forum just put “signature” into the search.

My guess would be that most of the high price is the way it is presented and the walnut box.

The knife does look good by the way. The initial buyer loves the box and pays the high price.
When it is time to resell, he rarely gets the price he thinks he should get because the
second buyer looks at the knife only and thinks the box should just be thrown in as free.

I agree Bob 100%. I had a few dozen cases, display boxes and plaques that came with that large collection I bought and that was exactly what people thought, that the display was just thrown in for free. I wish CCC would offer this without the display box, honestly I don’t want to have to store it. When you think about it what good is the display box? I want this to go in with all my other knives on display. I wouldn’t leave it in the box and never see it again unless I opened the box. So then you have to store the display box or throw it away. When you collect a lot of knives these things take up a lot of room. I wish Case would concentrate on the knives and forget about these display boxes.

FWIW here is a clearer picture of the knife. It looks like a beauty.
