All About Pocket Knives

I found this at an antique shop yesterday and after a bit of thinking went back today and bought it.Hopefully it can be repaired reasonably.

Three of the blades have never seen a stone;the spear blade has been sharpened once or twice.There is some light spider-webbing on the blades but nothing that can't be readily cleaned.Apparently some one opened the spear and pen blade and then closed them at about a 45 degree angle.The back spring snapped in two places about 3/4 of an inch from the center rivet.

No matter how cool a picture this makes.it is not worth ruining a perfectly good and relatively expensive pocket knife.I'm guilty of doing the same thing and you can rest assured I will never do it again to ANY knife.

hey, a 6488 lobster! it'll be a nice knife whe you get it back. and well worth the price. it will almost look new when case gets done.

That is not a difficult repair for an experienced cutler. Case did wonderful work for the 3-4 knives I've sent them.

I've always known it could happen, never had it happen, don't want it to happen!

Thank you for the e-mail address. NOW I have something that may be a bit unusual:Upon looking at the tang stamps closely it appears that one of the blades(the spear)has three dots and the sheepfoot blade only two! It looks that the third dot may be VERY LIGHTLY stamped but I was under the impression that the stamping was made in one pass.I'm enclosing a couple of pictures(close as I can get)to see what you think.

case used blades from previous runs. transition knives.

I've read that Case would use up the previous years material on their knives including blades. Good save K7K.

Or, if the knife has been apart in the past, that might account [partially] why spring broke.

Knife probably came out of factory stamped that way. I have seen 88's this way.
